Answers:

  1. The rates within a Private care home are broken into Two different areas.
The first rate is for Room/Board charge, this ranges from $850.00/ month and up depending upon the accommodation provided with the care home (Eg: Higher rate for an ensuite , balcony, extremely large room etc) The second rate is for the Care dollars for the additional care required by the client within the Private care home. This will be assessed upon meeting with the client and will be re-assessed after 3 months. Some homes will take in clients with minimal care but only after meeting with the client can this decision be made.

  2. The Room/Board funding in most circumstances comes from the client, family or guardian. The additional funding for the Personal Care required within the home is also provided by the client in a Private Care home unless the client has access to funding from alternate sources such as WCB or lawsuit funding from a MVA.

  3. Most of the operators offer long and short term care. Long term care is very beneficial for the client to keep consistency within their lives. Some operators offer respite care if they have the availability within their Private Care home.

  4. Most of the operators within our Association provide 24 hr. care either in their own home or a staffed residence. Once the assessment tool is completed this gives the operator a good understanding of the level of care required.

  6. All members provide Private Furnished Bedrooms with shared baths; some may provide private baths also. Clients are usually allowed to bring their own furnishings if they wish as long as they fit comfortably within the bedroom. The Room/Board agreement states what other amenities are provided within the Private care home. Wheelchair Accessibility is available in certain homes. Our member’s homes are located in various areas of the city.

  7. The smoking & Pets policies vary within individual Private Care home and is noted on the completed assessment form.

  8. The recreational and daily activities vary within the Private Care home but usually range from weekly outings to malls, bowling, swimiming etc.Once the assessment form is completed the operator can decide on the activities the client will be best suited for and able to participate in.

  9. Most operators allow visitors within the home during designated daytime hours with prior notice to the operator.

  10. All Private Care home operators’ and staff follow the Canada Food Guide. Most operators will regularly accommodate special diets such as low fat, low carb, low sugar and diabetic. If additional menu requirements are noted on the assessment form the operator will discuss this with the client prior to placement within the Private Care Home.
